Based on the manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Z has been the face of Shonen anime for almost three decades. Since its release in 1986, the show has entertained audiences and introduced iconic characters like Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and others.

These Saiyans have become fan favourites and have saved the Earth from destruction multiple times. However, other not Saiyan characters have helped save the Earth too. Due to their helpful nature, these non-Saiyan characters have also become fan favourites.

Despite the prevalence of overpowering characters in Dragon Ball Z, fans have developed strong attachments to certain non-Saiyan characters. Here are the most beloved non-Saiyan characters that are loved by fans worldwide:

Frieza

When discussing non-Saiyan characters, the first and obvious name that comes to mind is Frieza. His hate towards the Saiyan makes him one of the most formidable antagonists in anime history.

Frieza is one of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball series. He was introduced as a cruel dictator who destroyed planets for entertainment, including the planet Vegeta and its inhabitants, the Saiyans.

In the Namek saga, Frieza caused significant trouble for the heroes, leading Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan to defeat him. Despite his defeat on Namek, Frieza later challenges Goku on Earth but is ultimately killed by Future Trunks.

Due to his popularity among fans, Frieza was revived in Dragon Ball Super.

Krillin

Krillin is among Earth’s best fighters and is considered one of the few who can put his life on the line for the sake of humanity. In the Saiyan Saga, Krillin is one of the few characters to survive a face-off with the Saiyans, along with Gohan, Yajirobe, and Goku.

During the battle with Frieza, Krillin did an excellent job assisting Vegeta and Gohan. He was the one who forced Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan. Watching Goku and his friendship from the start of Dragon Ball is definitely worth it. Krillin is one of the best non-Saiyan Dragon Ball Z characters.

Master Roshi

Master Roshi is one of the most beloved non-Saiyan characters in Dragon Ball Z. He made his debut in episode #3 of the series and was the one who trained Goku and taught him his legendary move, the ‘Kamehameha.’ Goku later used this move to defeat many foes.

In the Tournament of Power, where everyone tries to keep their universe safe, Master Roshi impressed the God of Destruction with five eliminations, which was more than Piccolo and Krillin.

Despite his age, Roshi can go toe-to-toe against Goku in his base Super Saiyan Form. Additionally, his carefree nature makes him a fan favorite.

Piccolo

In Dragon Ball Z, Piccolo, the son of King Piccolo, initially enters as an evil force seeking revenge on Goku for his father’s death. However, after Goku sacrifices himself against Raditz, Piccolo accepts him as a friend and takes Goku’s son Gohan under his wing.
