A Norwegian helicopter chased a dog from their research station to the United States National Science Institution Station 4. At first, it was unclear why the two Norwegian men tried to kill an innocent dog. They used all means necessary to kill the dog, including a rifle and a grenade. However, the dog survived and went to the American research station, where the researchers tried to protect him.

The Norwegians decided to kill the dog regardless and stepped out of the helicopter to throw a grenade toward the dog. Unfortunately, the grenade exploded near, killing Norwegian men. The other man attempted to kill the dog by firing a bullet but ended up injuring another researcher.

Thankfully, Garry (Donald Moffat) was there. He shot the man and saved everyone.

It became clear that the dog wasn’t normal. Later in The Thing, it was discovered that the dog was the one who attacked the Norwegian research station and killed everyone.

The infection continued until MacReady and Childs burned the last Thing.
