The Babadock movie picks up six years after the death of Oskar (Ben Winspear), with Amelia (Essie Davis) still having nightmares of the time she lost her husband. However, her son, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), is insane and frequently talks about having a dream of a monster. His mind is preoccupied with an imaginary monster, forcing him to build weaponry to fight him.

One fine day, while in school, Samuel’s erratic behavior caused problems for him and her mother when the school authority decided to employ a monitor. However, Amelia ignores their suggestion and decides to find another school for him.

One night, before going to sleep, Amelia let Samuel choose a storybook to read tonight. That’s when he picks Mister Babadook. While reading, Amelia starts feeling scared, while Samuel thinks the “Babadook” monster is a thing.

Unlike other horror movies, it is a psychological horror that plays with people’s minds. People still get confused with the movie ending, with many speculating that the monster still lives on after the film ends.

How Does Oskar’s Death Affect Amelia Throughout The Film?

Oscar was Amelia’s husband and Samuel’s father, dying six years before Samuel’s birth. However, even after so many years, Amelia still gets the nightmare of the time Oscar dies. Throughout the film, her husband’s loss is hunting her and affecting her mental health.

Also, during one scene, when her dog (Bugsy) tries to break into the basement where Oscar’s stuff is kept, he shoos the dog away and locks the door. This shows that Amelia is obsessed with stuff and that she has not been able to get over her husband’s death.

He enters the basement on his birthday to play with his father’s things, which Amelia dislikes and scolds him for. However, it turns out she is only feeling lonely.

However, it turns out Oskar’s death affects her so much that she can’t think straight. Moreover,  her own emotional turmoil of losing Oskar affects the mental health of her son. Because of this, everyone at school is afraid of him and doesn’t want him to be with other kids.

What Happened To Samuel At Ruby’s Birthday Party?

During Ruby’s birthday party, Samuel keeps himself away from everyone by hiding at the tree house. While he is hiding, Ruby finds him and asks him to leave her tree house. Scared, Samuel doesn’t want to leave the tree house and says he isn’t hurting anyone. After saying nasty things about Samuel’s dad, he stood up and pushed her from the tree house, causing her serious injuries.

After this incident, Amelia takes him and leaves for home. While on the way to the house, Samuel has a hallucination of Babadook. He looks at the side mirror and shouts, “Get out,” and later suffers from a seizure. Some people nearby helped her take him to the hospital at that time.

At the hospital, the Doctor (Terence Crawford) checks him and suggests Amelia wait for the result. Additionally, he believes that Samuel is possibly suffering from high levels of anxiety. And he is very committed to his monster theory.

However, Amelia argues that Samuel’s behavior is becoming worse and aggressive. Later, the Doctor suggests Amelia to see him to a psychiatrist.

Later, Amelia asks the doctor if he could give them something just till they get an appointment. And she explains that she and her son have not slept for days. The doctor agrees to give her some sedatives till the test comes.

Why Did Samuel Feel Her Mother Would Die?

Six years ago, Samuel’s father, Oskar, died in a car accident, leaving Amelia to raise their son on her own. However, it turns out that by losing his father at a young age, Samuel became extra protective of his mother and built weaponry to protect her from his imaginary monster. However, this brings only problems for her.

One day at the bed, Amelia read him a story about Mister Babadook, which frightened him. He began to believe that the Babadook was real and could kill his mother. 

After coming from the hospital, Amelia gives Samuel medicine and helps him to sleep. Samuel told her that he didn’t want her to die.

How Amelia Get Back The Mister Babadook Book?

On the day of Samuel’s birthday, Amelia gets rid of The Mister Babadook Book by dumping it in the dustbin, only to find the Mister Babadook book on her doorstep a few days later. Fearful Amelia turns the pages of the book only to find new words and scares her more.

Additionally, the book features new pop-up art depicting Amelia killing first her dog, then her son, and finally herself. After seeing this horrible thing, Amelia burns the book.

How Amelia And Samuel Defeat The Bababook AT The End?

The End starts with the murderous intentions of Ameli, who happens to be controlled by the Babadook monster. Amelia is watching television in the living room when Samuel and Bugsy watch her from the stairs until suddenly Bugsy walks towards her. 

From time to time, we show that Bugsy has realized something is wrong with Amelia. Again, Bugsy went to her, but Amelia, controlled by the Babadook monster, attacked Bugsy and killed her.

Later, she tries to kill Samuel, but he locks himself in the room. After breaking the door, Samuel stabs her first and then attacks her mother with the weaponry he built.

Injured, Amelia follows his son to the basement only to find getting unconscious. After getting her consciousness back, Amelia tries to choke Samuel to death. The Babadook monster lost her control over Amelia after Samuel’s hands touched her face.

Later, Samuel says, “You can’t get rid of the Babadook.” The Babadook monster tries to take Samuel. by force. However, she saves her son, but in the process, she has seen her husband die. After having a tug-of-war, the Babadook monster escapes into the basement, and Amelia locks it.

What Is The Theme Of The Babadook?

Directed by Jennifer Kent, The Babadook is a 2014 psychological horror film that explores the themes of depression, anxiety, and stress. After losing her husband six years ago, Amelia is a single mother who raised Samuel on her own.

Meanwhile, Amelia has lost all her emotions and is always sad. On the other hand, her son, Samuel, turns into a freak, causing trouble everywhere he goes. There is not a person in his life whom he can call a friend. Even his own cousin Ruby is afraid of him.

Due to so much emotional trauma in her life, Amelia begins to hallucinate about seeing a Babadook monster. After being controlled by the Babadook monster, Amelia kills the dog first and later goes for Samuel.
